Nassau Beaches Closed to Bathers

County closes beaches following heavy rains.

Posted by Heather Doyle. Written by Adina Genn.

The Nassau County Department of Health closed 19 beaches on Tuesday, as a precautionary measure because of runoff after heavy rainfall. It is not clear when they will re-open.

The county points out that storm runoff can be harmful due to elevating bacterial levels, affecting the quality of the water at area beaches.

On the North Shore, closed beaches include Centre Island (Sound), Creek Club, Lattingtown Beach, Laurel Hollow Beach, Morgan Sound, North Hempstead Beach Park, Piping Rock Beach Club, Prybil Beach, Ransom Beach, Roosevelt Beach, Sea Cliff Village Beach, Soundside Beach, Stehli Beach and Tappen Beach.

And on the South Shore, the closed beaches include Biltmore Beach Club, Hewlett Point Beach, Island Park Beach, Merrick Estates Civic Association and Philip Healey Beach.
