Ms. Hoosack was born in Warwickshire England about fifteen miles from the home of William Shakespeare. She was one of twelve children.
In 1967, Ms. Hoosack moved to the United States where she intended to stay for just one year. She met and married a man from Hicksville, Dave. They had a daughter, Jennifer. One of her fondest memories was seeing Elvis Presley perform at Madison Square Garden. She has also seen concerts by Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, The Beatles, Luciano Pavarotti, Tom Jones, Josh Grobin, and her favorite, Roy Orbison.
In the 80s, when it was time for her daughter to go to college, Ms. Hoosack decided to go back to work full-time. Although she was hired to work in the Guidance Department, Ms. Hoosack found herself working at the front desk in the Principal’s office at Oyster Bay High School. Dr. Elizabeth Scott was the principal at the time. Over the next 20 years, Ms. Hoosack worked for four different principals.
Six years ago, she was looking for a change of pace and drawing on her love of music and theater, Ms. Hoosack took the position of Secretary for the Fine and Performing Arts Department. She did a great job with the department, including keeping it all together when the Supervisor’s position was empty for a year. She also handled the secretarial duties for the LOTE and ESL Department and the Social Studies Department which includes Business Education, Home and Careers and Technology.
Another highlight for Ms. Hoosack was seeing the Oyster Bay High School Band play at Carnegie Hall.
Ms. Hoosack is going to relocate to Las Vegas to live full time in a condo that she and her husband have had for years. She plans to drive to Vegas and plans to stop at Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee to visit the home of Elvis.
Her daughter Jenny and grandson Landon live on the west coast. Ms. Hoosack is looking forward to spending quality time with her family. Her goal is to find a job with the Wynn Hotel. She would love working for the theater in the hotel. When asked about retirement, Ms. Hoosack said that she will enjoy not doing anything she doesn’t want to do.
While working in Oyster Bay, Ms. Hoosack always had a smile on her face and a kind word for everyone she met. Her hard work, dedication and positive energy will be missed in the Oyster Bay–East Norwich community.
