Budget Season Coming Up in Oyster Bay

Superintendent Phyllis Harrington's monthly message, reminders.

In her monthly message to the Oyster Bay-East Norwich School District, Superintendent Phyllis Harrington reminded the community of several upcoming events and schedule changes:

  • Schools will be in session Feb. 19-22. Feb. 18 is still a holiday and classes will not be in session. (February break was canceled after Hurricane Sandy. Read more here.)
  • Oyster Bay High School's Student and Staff Talent Show is Feb. 8.
  • Business Honor Society inductions are Feb. 13.
  • Science Honor Society inductions are Feb. 27.
  • The OBEN Board of Education meets Feb. 5 and Feb. 26. The budget will be discussed for the first time at the Feb. 26 meeting.

"While I am not an alarmist by nature, it is fair to say that it will be difficult to stay within the tax levy limit imposed by the legislators without making difficult reductions in our existing program," Harrington said, addressing the upcoming budget process.

"I can assure you that the leadership team is working diligently to minimize the impact on students but as always, this is a difficult and challenging time."
