Report: State Attorney General Subpoenas Mangano Campaign, GOP

Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano has been subpoenaed by the state’s attorney general in the midst of his re-election campaign.

      State Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman has subpoenaed the Nassau GOP and County Executive Edward Mangano's re-election campaign for information about contributions from superstorm Sandy contractors including Looks Great Services, which has nearly $70 million in debris-removal contracts with Nassau, attorneys for the recipients said.

According to an Associated Press report in the Wall Street Journal, in the 11 weeks following Hurricane Sandy, “at least 23 companies” hired to cut trees and repair after the storm donated “at least $144,000” to Mangano’s campaign.

Also questioned in the subpoena is a MetLife Stadium skybox that was allegedly purchased by “a political committee headed by Mangano's chief deputy,” Rob Walker.

Walker heads the Hicksville Republican Committee, which, according toNewsday, “purchased the luxury box at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey for $204,000 last year.”

Suozzi Lands Support From Nassau Mayors

A bi-partisan coalition of Nassau County mayors have announced their endorsement of Tom Suozzi for County Executive.

The mayors for Suozzi include Republicans, independents and Democrats from cities and villages across Nassau County, including Suozzi's cousin, Glen Cove Mayor Ralph Suozzi.

Finalists for Coliseum Property Chosen

Nassau County is one step closer to finding a developer for the Nassau Coliseum property once the Islanders move to Brooklyn in 2015.

County Executive Ed Mangano announced Tuesday that of the four original companies selected, the Madison Square Garden Company and Forest City Ratner Companies have been chosen as finalists to redevelop the property.

Remembering 'Comfort Women' of WWII

An effort by the Korean-American community to remember the so-called "Comfort Women" of the WWII era is being promoted by Assemblyman Charles Lavine.

Last week, Lavine, D-Glen Cove, presented David Lee, President of the Korean-American Public Affairs Committee with a proclamation from the state Assembly. Thousands of women from South East Asia were compelled to become sex slaves for Japanese military personnel under brutal conditions.
