Despite a post-Christmas storm that caused additional damage to the project, County Executive Ed Mangano says reconstruction of West Shore Road is on track.
"West Shore Rd. reconstruction remains on pace," wrote Mangano to his Facebook followers Tuesday. "The blocks which will comprise the new seawall have begun to arrive. Crews are working hard to get the road open as soon as possible."
Mangano and the Village of Mill Neck have been updating residents on the project.
According to the most recent update from the Village of Mill Neck, Cleft Road and West Shore Road south of Cleft Road could reopen as early as this month, weather permitting. Mangano's Facebook wrote that a portion of the road could open by Jan. 25.
Since residents are now using detours in and out of Bayville, Old Brookville Police have increased their presence speeds and traffic in the area, wrote the village. Residents on Frost Mill Road, Beaver Brook, and Factory Pond Road are advised to use caution leaving their properties. Check the PDF on the right for the latest Village of Mill Neck update.
So far, the Bayville Bridge has not yet been repaired, according to the statement.
Only residents who live on West Shore Road or on one of its side streets have been allowed to drive on the road. Those residents may also have visitors who are allowed to pass through the area.
