Victim Rescued from Capsized Vessel on Oyster Bay

Good Samaritan picks up victim off Roosevelt Park as emergency teams swarm to scene.

A Good Samaritan rescued a capsized boater in Oyster Bay as dusk fell Tuesday night.

The incident was first reported about 6:30 p.m. and brought a large-scale response of police and firefighters to the shore at Roosevelt Memorial Park.

Fortunately, the victim had been fished out of the water by a Good Samaritan and brought to the nearby Roosevelt Marina, police at the scene said. The victim is expected to be fine, authorities said.

The boater was in a dingy rowing to or from his sailboat, which was moored in the picturesque harbor. Oyster Bay dive teams had geared up when they learned the victim had been rescued.

The victim was not identified.
