Police Investigating Fire at Historic Mill Pond House

Located in Oyster Bay and owned by the town, the house was vacant, police say.

Nassau police need the public's help in investigating a suspicious fire that destroyed a historic home on Saturday at 9:25 pm in Oyster Bay.

According to arson and bomb squad detectives, the Oyster Bay Fire Department, with the assistance of the Atlantic Steamer, Locust Valley and Bayville Fire Departments, responded to a fire at the Mill Pond House at 1065 W. Shore Road. The house is owned by the Town of Oyster Bay.

Police say 100 firefighters with 15 pieces of fire apparatus battled the blaze and successfully extinguished the fire that destroyed the vacant home.

A preliminary investigation by the fire marshall and arson-bomb squad detectives deemed the fire to be suspicious.
