Icy Roads Cause Two Accidents

Police call in sand trucks to icy Oyster Bay Roads Tuesday.

Icy roads caused hazardous driving conditions Tuesday morning, according to police.

Nassau County Police confirmed two separate accidents in Oyster Bay Tuesday morning that were caused by icy roads.

Just after 8 a.m., police reported traffic issues and two accidents in the Mill River Road and Capitol Heights area. Nassau County Police said the requested sand trucks for the area to prevent any future accidents.

Police could not confirm the condition of any drivers or passengers in the accidents, but said the accidents were minor.

According to icyroadsafety.com, which said there were 458 deaths due to icy road conditions in 2009-10, driving slowly is the best way to avoid icy road accidents. If your car begins to slide, they advise turning into it so the driver can see where they are going.
