Bayville residents who have not evacuated are in grave danger and must leave immediately, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Monday afternoon. The only remaining route out of Bayville is Lattingtown Road, all others are submerged and impassable.
At a press conference at the new National Guard Center in Farmingdale, Cuomo said hundreds of residents who have not left the Bayville area are facing" unprecedented" storm surges for the next three hours.
National Guard troops are being deployed along with local firefighters to help evacuate those left behind.
Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano said he does not know how many people are left, and estimated there are hundreds. He and Cuomo warned that those who have not evacuated are placing their lives and those of the first responders in jeopardy.
One thousand Army National Guard Troops have been deployed to Long Island and one thousand more will be arriving by Tuesday, Cuomo said.
Most of those troops will be deployed to assist Long Island communities in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.
However, most everyone from Bayville has been through this multiple times...it is very difficultto get those whom have lived through generations of storm survivors to just jump ship! show some compassion and class!
Stick to you opinion if you think you are right!. I'd like to see you "waltzing" through the floods to dry land when all the rescuers are off helping some really needy people that have more sense, and can't get out on their own. Some places are saying if you don't evacuate when told to they you are on your own. That sounds logical to me. We hope everyone is safe and sound, but let's be reasonable.
