Fire Department Mourns Long-Time Chief

Funeral services set for Oyster Bay's James Brandt.

Lifelong Oyster Bay resident and member of the James D. "Tiny" Brandt, died Monday.

A proud World War II veteran, Brandt was a 71-year member of the Oyster Bay Fire Department and once served as their chief. In his lifetime of community service, he once served as president of the North Shore Fire Council, the Executive Council of Firematic Association of Nassau County, Nassau County Fire Chiefs, among others.

When not in the fire house, he was also the past commander of the Quentin Roosevelt Post of the American Legion in Oyster Bay, past president of Doubleday Babcock Center, and served as the president of Beachbrook Seniors until his death. See all of Brandt's community service

Brandt is survived by his wife Anna, children Sharon and Marjorie, grandchildren Shannon, Kathleen, and Meghan, great-grandfather of Emily, Aiden, Ryan, Declan, and Liam, sister-in-law Dottie Brandt, and many nieces and nephews.

A wake will be held at Francis P. DeVine Funeral Home in Oyster Bay Wednesday 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Firematic services will be held Wednesday at 8 p.m. and a funeral mass Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the Chapel of St. Dominic Church. A burial will follow at St. John's Memorial Cemetery in Laurel Hollow.
