Widespread Power Outages Hit Oyster Bay

LIPA reports 10,000 customers affected in Town of Oyster Bay as high winds rip through region overnight.

Severe weather overnight knocked out power to much of Long Island, with the Town of Oyster Bay seeing its effects in the form of widespread power outages.

The Long Island Power Authority reports more than 10,000 customers were without power townwide as of 8:00 a.m. Thursday, including 1,921 in Bayville, 2,208 in Oyster Bay Cove and another 47 in East Norwich. 

The National Weather Service reported gusts of 60 mph, which could bring down tree limbs or whole trees.

A high wind advisory is in effect for northern Nassau County through 6 p.m. Thursday.
