Cops: Man Had 88 Bags of Heroin, Injured Officer While Trying to Escape

Man struck two cops cars, injured officer while trying to run on foot, police said.

A man faces a battery of charges after Nassau County Police say he, while in possession of 88 bags of heroin, struck two police cars and injured an officer while trying to flee arrest.

Police approached Deron Barnes, 31, of the Bronx, on Orchard Street in Oyster Bay Tuesday night at 8:10 p.m. after he pulled over to conduct a drug sale, cops said.

As the officers approached, Barnes drove his car into the rear of a nearby parked car and then backed up into two unmarked NCPD vehicles, police reported.

Barnes jumped out of the driver's side window after the collision and tried to escape on foot, but was caught by an officer, cops reported.

The officer, of the Nassau County Bureau of Special Operations unit, was treated and released from a nearby hospital after he injured his knee and arm, reported police.

Police found that Barnes had 88 bags of heroin and an undisclosed amount of cash on him at the time of the incident, police said. The investigation that followed also turned up a warrant that had been issued for Barnes in February 2012 for being a parole absconder, cops said.
