Movie Filmed on Long Island Gets Super Bowl Airtime

A record number of Super Bowl viewers get a glimpse of Long Island as the trailer for “Noah” was featured in the big-budget commercials.

The famed ark featured in the film was built on the sprawling property of Planting Fields Arboretum. Crews and movie stars spent several months in late summer 2012 filming at the Oyster Bay location.

This year's Super Bowl garnered a record-breaking 111.5 million viewers.

The film stars Russell Crowe and Jennifer Connelly as Noah and his wife Naameh. Oscar winner Anthony Hopkins, Emma Watson, Ray Winstone, and Logan Lerman also star in the movie, set for a March 28 release. Watch the Super Bowl trailer on MTV.com.

In September 2012, Crowe was on break from filming when he was rescued in Cold Spring Harbor as he kayaked.

"We didn't even know it was him, so we treated him just like everybody else," said Petty Officer 3rd Class Seth Pritt, who, with two other crew members, helped the 48-year-old actor and his rented kayak aboard a 25-foot response boat — without any star treatment. "Hopefully people understand it wasn't one of those things where we saw it was Russell Crowe and decided to give him a hand."

Noah’s cinematic ark survived a real-life flood as Hurricane Sandy roared through Long Island in October 2012.

Film director Darren Aronofsky posted a picture of the ark in Oyster Bay to his Twitter in July 2012 with the caption, "I dreamt about this since I was 13. And now it's a reality. Genesis 6:14."
