DOT Approves Repairs to Sagamore Trail

Sandy-damaged Eel Creek Bridge on Sagamore Hill trail to be repaired, says Steve Israel.

Funds are on their way to help repair Oyster Bay roads and a bridge damaged by Hurricane Sandy.

Rep. Steve Israel, D-Dix Hills, announced the Department of Transportation's Federal Highway Administration has allocated funds to repair damages to part of the Sagamore Hill National Historic Site.

"The funds will be used to repair Eel Creek Bridge, which was damaged heavily by Sandy," said Sagamore Hill Superintendent Thomas Ross. The bridge is part of a nature trail on the historic property.

"I am pleased that DOT will help us to repair the roads of Sagamore Hill that were damaged in Hurricane Sandy," said Israel in a statement. "Protecting this site is important to American history and must remain one of Long Island’s treasured landmarks.”

The project is included in $23.7 million of funds distributed to restore roads to pre-disaster conditions, according to Israel's office. Funds are being distributed by the Department of Transportation.
